Elon Musk has claimed that his new startup, Neuralink, will stream music straight into our brains. As reported by Futurism, Musk has teased us ahead of his new company’s launch on August 28.

Musk leaked the news on Twitter when asked about the subject. He has often been outspoken on social media. Most recently calling for the breakup of Amazon due to his distant for monopolies.

Musk has also spoken out against AI claiming that it is potentially very dangerous. However, many others have hit back against him claiming his words were false.

Musk makes a bold claim about Neuralink

It seems that Elon Musk was unable to contain himself from teasing us with some new information about his new company Neuralink. Musk was asked about the brain-hacking startup by computer scientist Austin Howard.

Howard addressed the exact issue of being able to listen to music directly through a brain-hacking interface. Musk rather curtly simply replied with “Yes”.

Obviously, this is hardly concrete news and does not indicate whether Neuralink is close to creating this technology. We also know very little about what the company has been doing.

Neuralink set to launch on August 28

Since 2019 we have seen very little from Neuralink. The last thing we saw was a device that hooks up to the brain via holes in the skull cut by lasers back in 2019.

Musk claims early iterations of the device would be focussed on repairing broken neural connections. Most likely for those suffering from diseases such as Parkinson’s. Musk confirmed this on a recent podcast appearance.

Therefore, it is still unclear as to whether Neuralink will be able to bypass the ear to beam sound into the brain. We will have to wait and see what the company has to offer. However, do not expect anything like this soon.

Musk was also asked whether Neuralink could create devices to  “stimulate the release of oxytocin, serotonin, and other chemicals when needed”. Again Musk replied with a “Yes”.

Musk has also tweeted calling for people to consider working at Neuralink. He tweeted that anyone who has “solved hard problems with phones/ wearables (sealing, signal processing, inductive charging, power management, etc.),” should consider working for the company.

It is clear that Musk has his sights very high with Neuralink. However, it is probably wise not to read too much into this most recent Twitter escapade. Given his history on social media, we can probably put this one down to him jesting for sport rather than any meaningful information.

However, what Musk and Neuralink are able to come up with in the future does have the potential to be very exciting. We will keep our ears to the ground and see what his company can produce.
