Harmony OS

Huawei’s operating system, HarmonyOS (known as HongMeng OS in China) was recently launched. As of now, this system is only active on the recently released Honor Smart Screen. However, the company said that this system will be used on multiple devices next year. This includes smartwatches, bands, PCs, cars, VR glasses, smart speakers, etc. The innovative architecture of micro-kernel and the endorsement of Huawei’s R&D personnel is quite attractive. This has given the Harmony OS a huge potential and many netizens outside China are optimistic.

Gizchina News of the week

According to Counterpoint Analyst, Neil Shah, HarmonyOS will achieve a 2% market share in 2020. Some users may feel this is insignificant, but it is not. According to the latest statistics of Statcounter, Android has 39%, Windows 35%, and iOS 13.87%. Others include macOS with 5.92% while Linux got only 0.77%. This shows that if Harmony OS can achieve a 2% share, it is a great achievement.

In addition, Neil Shah pointed out that at the end of this year, Harmony OS share in the Chinese market will reach 0.1%. By the end of next year, the value will increase to 5%. Shah also analyzed that if there is a more powerful driving force behind it, this system may open a new breakthrough on smart TVs.
